And I’m blessed as the poor but still I judge success by what I’m wearing.”

I sprained my right ankle on Monday. Playing basketball over lunch, I jumped to block a shot and came down on the shooter’s foot. My ankle rolled, and I felt a pop, to which I responded by writhing on the ground and fist pumping the court. (No, he didn’t make the shot.) So here I sit, three days later, with my leg propped up on an office chair and a bag of heated corn draped over my ankle. I do this every 2-3 years, so I pretty much know what’s in store for the next couple weeks.
I did have the thought, though, that my response to a sprained ankle now is much different from the first time I did this nearly 15 years ago. Here are the basic thoughts that went through my head then, and now.

“One method I’ve found to control web worms is to attach a propane torch to a long pole and burn the nests. I used to have them all over my cottonwood trees, but got rid of them after burning the webs for a couple of years. Someone told me that this disrupts the worm’s cycle. The drawback is dodging the flaming webs as they fall to the ground.”

I’m trying to figure out what to do with the web worms in the trees in our yard and ran across this and thought it was too good to pass up.
